Amazon Web Services
AWS

In its Magic Quadrant, Gartner places Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the "Leaders" quadrant for the 7th consecutive year. AWS is undoubtedly the benchmark when it comes to the Cloud and in particular IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service). In this segment, which saw the strongest growth in 2016, Amazon has almost 45% of the market.

AWS has two decisive advantages.

Firstly, its graphical interface : AWS Management Portal for vCenter provides a clear migration path for VMs (and in particular VMware VMs). VM instances can be hosted in specific regions. In Europe, AWS has 13 data centres.

A second advantage is that its Enhanced Networking function provides network connectivity that is more efficient (e.g. low latency) than the standard one.

Microsoft Azure

As a direct competitor of AWS, Microsoft has created its Azure Public Cloud on top of Windows Server and Hyper-V. This software proximity facilitates the migration of VMs between local datacentres and Azure. It is also possible to connect Azure to your corporate network via a point-to-point VPN.

Microsoft has defined 17 regions for Azure, located throughout the US, Europe, Asia, South America and Australia.

In the IaaS market, Microsoft's approach is complete, especially after the launch of Azure Stack, its Hybrid Cloud deployment platform that Syselcom acquired in 2019.

Google Cloud

Google Compute Engine offers all the basic features of Cloud network connectivity, directly or via a VPN. But it does not support VM migrations into the Google Compute Engine Cloud. It is necessary to go through third party providers.

Google allows you to choose the hosting regions for your VMs. The giant has data centres in Europe (Belgium, UK, Germany, Netherlands and Finland).
